We hope this page will be a place that we can post ideas and encouragement for one another, recipes and tips.  Please leave comments at the bottom of the posts and we will incorporate them into the blog as as we go!  Please forward this blog to anyone you think might like to join in!  The more the merrier!

Topic 1:  What are your goals for this 6 weeks?  Please reply in the comments section below.  It is fun to read the goals of each person to get ideas and inspiration.  This does NOT mean you need to take on all of them.  This is about helping your family and yourself, NOT being perfect.

My list of goals for this year is a bit longer than last year so I am breaking my goals into two parts: the "I am going to..." and the "I hope to .... if I finish the other things."

By Dec 1st I am going to:

have Christmas cards signed, addressed and ready to mail

have three dressy outfits put together in my closet for holiday get togethers

house decorated inside and out (that is not a WHOLE lot) and decoration boxes PUT AWAY

tree cut, soaked and ready to decorate, decorate day on calendar

gifts for PCA and OHS teachers purchased/made and wrapped

plans (including containers) for baked gifts for sunday school teachers, neighbors, etc.. (bake and deliver later) day to bake and deliver on calendar

gifts for grandparents, extended family purchased and wrapped

gifts from children and for children planned, ordered, purchased - wrapping as they are purchased

Christmas "traditions" on calendar

plans for "homemade" grandparent gifts to be completed by children during December

plan menu for Christmas eve and Christmas morning

purchase some of Santa, have all items planned - I still like to shop during December

I would like to:

add outside Christmas lights to our decorating

clean out storage area and create wrapping/gift storage area

plan children's outfits for holiday get togethers/church

My goals
Have parties planned, invitations printed and ready to mail, menus planned

Christmas Cards completely ready to mail

House and outside decorated and christmas china switched into our dish cabinet. Both trees decorated

All gifts besides Santa purchased

Our fun Christmas events (like going to the nutcracker, Rockettes, Ice house at Opryland etc.) planned and tickets purchased

Something I would like to do and would love to get ideas for is an activity/ies that my children could do over break that would serve the community, the church, the underprivileged.....I am looking for something a little different and a little more involved that doing a Christmas Angel from the mall (although I do think that is a great thing).

A couple ideas I had at the breakfast meeting.......

wrap one side of your extended family with one side of your christmas paper and the other side for the other. this assumes you bought the 2 sided Sally Foster paper:) It really helps when packing up to go to that sides Christmas to make sure you have everyones.

The five of us drew names and each bought a little something to be exchanged as our one gift to open on Christmas eve before going to bed.

Last year I made notes about how I decorated my house (and took pictures) kept my favorite and/or easy Christmas recipes and my favorite Christmas card styles so that I would have them for a quick reference when I started this year. My notes were very helpful and reminded me of some things I forgot about last year.

Thanks Nancy for getting us together Monday and Laurie for setting up the blog........this is my first blogging experience!

As a former teacher, I always loved getting ornaments from my students. Each year when I hang them, I always think of that child. Make sure to write your child's name in permanent ink somewhere on the ornament.

Here are my goals:
By November 5th: Have shopping completed except for the children.

By November 12th: Have 600 Christmas cards completed.

During week of November 16th decorate inside of house.

November 23rd: Put up tree.

November 28th: Decorate outside of house and have most of children's shopping completed
and any party plans completed.

I was actually thinking of not having any parties this year in order to keep my personal stress level low.
I will help give the Happy Birthday Jesus Party that we always do with The Schotts but don't know what to do with the caroling party we usually do...I battle giving it up because we just have always done it...

Here are two quotes that I had in my Christmas Notebook from last year:
1)Reconnect; Don't Rush.
2)The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other. Burton Hillis

Best tip from last year:
Let each of my four kids pick just one thing that is Christmas to them and then I am focused on only four special things instead of running around all Christmas trying to do all things.
